We’ve had a good growing month - the 3/8” tines we used on greens last week are healed.
Fairways and roughs are growing very well also so don’t go in the rough; play off the fairway as they are in great condition. We are in the process of cutting out the curb on # 12 fairway about 120 ft. on the first half and the same on the second half. This was necessary because the areas that allowed carts to go in and out of the fairway was so small there was not enough room to spread traffic causing too much damage.
On # 10 fairway, the first half of the curb was reinstalled because the area was so steep that it caused problems with carts sliding out of control. Opening up fairways a little more began two weeks ago. This week we will take the cut down to another level which will tend to look like the turf is dormant, but soon it will recover.

Will you be doing any fairway or green maintenance around October 8th? We visited a few years ago and they had just sanded the fairways. Thanks
August 19th, 2009 at 2:43 pmWe’re doing some greens maintenance on September 8. It’s called a driject procedure - it doesn’t pull a core, but rather injects sand through tiny holes into the green. We contracted a company to come in and do the procedure. It shouldn’t be too disruptive and the healing process is about 5 days.
August 20th, 2009 at 7:27 amTypically we do our fairway topdressing in September/October, but we haven’t set a date yet and it will revolve around weather, tournaments, etc…
October is loaded with tournaments, so I would imagine we’d do fairways in September or November.
Hi Manny,
Thanks for keeping us up to date on maintenance. It is valuable information for planning our trips to Monterey, specifically to play at Poppy Hills. Keep up the good work.
August 26th, 2009 at 12:25 pmHow are the greens after the 9/8 injection? Are you planning any other maintenance of fairways, greens, or tee boxes between now and 9/22/2009?
September 10th, 2009 at 11:44 amHi Manny,
